Diesel prices increased by 4.7 cents per litre overnight in Nova Scotia. The increase puts the minimum pump price for self-serve diesel at $1.80 per litre in the local area. There was no change overnight in gas prices. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is still $1.46 per litre locally.
Shortly before 1:00pm on Thursday, New Glasgow Regional Police advised that emergency services police and fire were on-scene at the New Glasgow Academy due to a propane leak. Police said there was no immediate threat to students’ safety, but students were being evacuated to a safe location as a precautionary measure. Police also asked the public to stay away as emergency services were on-scene. By 2:30pm, word came from police that the New Glasgow Academy and area had been safety secured and there was no further safety concern.
A crowd of about fifty people gathered Thursday in front of the Nova Scotia legislature in Halifax for a flag-raising ceremony to recognize Transgender Day of Remembrance. The event — hosted by N-D-P critic for L-G-B-T-Q-plus affairs Lisa Lachance — raised the trans flag in honour of transgender people who have died because of violence, discrimination and hate. Premier Tim Houston said in a statement that everyone deserves to live authentically, safely and with dignity. He says his government is committed to advancing inclusion and safety for all transgender and gender-diverse people.

The 2025 New Glasgow Fire Department Santa Claus Parade is taking place on Saturday, November 29, at 5:30 p.m.
The Honorary Parade Marshals for this year’s event are Henderson and Carol Paris, recognized for their decades of leadership, dedication, and community impact”. The parade route will begin on Granville Street, continue along East River Road, proceed onto Archimedes Street, and finish on Provost Street. A Sensory-Friendly Zone will be designated from Granville Street to Frederick Street. Registration is open for parade participants, including local businesses, schools, community groups, and organizations interested in entering a float, walking group, or vehicle.
