The Pictou County Lightning U-18 Men won AAA gold at Basketball Nova Scotia Provincials in Dartmouth last weekend. The Lightning were undefeated in four games, winning the gold medal match 90-82 against the Sou-West Bulldogs. Glen Cox was named tournament MVP. Player of the game awards went to Rhys Stevenson, Jordan Phee, Tyler Watters, and Layton Williams.
Women’s Hockey:
At the IIHF Women’s World Cup of Hockey, Team Canada defeated Team Russia 5-1, Natalie Spooner had a hat-trick for Canada and also scored her 50th career goal wearing the maple leaf. Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull and Rebecca Johnstone added the other goals for Canada who will face the host Finland at 1:30 this afternoon.
QMJHL:
One game in the Q last night, The Sherebrook Phoenix defeated the Drummondville Voltiguers 5-2 to get their first win of the series, Drummondville still has the upper hand 2 games to 1.
Tonight the Mooseheads will try and go up 3 games to 0 against the Wildcats in Moncton.
The Rimouski Oceanic will travel to Cape Breaton, that series is tied at 1-1.
Ryoun Noranda will try and take a commanding 3-0 series lead against Victoriaville.
Maritime Hockey League:
Last night the Summerside Western Capitals fought off elimination with a 3-1 win over Campbellton. Game 6 goes tomorrow night.
In the Eastlink South division, the Yarmouth Mariners can advance to the championship tonight with a win over South Shore.
MLB:
Carlos Carrea hit an absolute bomb in the 8th inning… it travelled a total of 22 feet from the plate, but he gunned it out to score Alex Bregman from 3rd in the 9th as the Astros beat the Yankees 4-3.
The Chicago Cubs didn’t look like a triple a team for the first time this year as they smoke the Pirates 10-0.
