Women’s Hockey:
Canada picked up a big win over host Finland at the IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship, 6-1. Loren Gabel scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the win, the 21 year old from Kitchener is an absolute star, she has 4 points in 4 games this tournament after scoring 69 in 38 games with Clarkson university this past year.
Maritime Hockey League:
Comgratulations to the Yarmouth Mariners, they won the Eastlink South Division Title last night against the South Shore Lumberjacks defeating them 7-1. They’ll advance to the finals to play the winner of the Campbellton / Summerside series. Campbellton has the lead in that one 3 games to 2.
QMJHL:
The Ryoun Noranda Huskies take a dominating 3-0 series lead against Victoriaville defeating them 8-0 yesterday.
The Rimouski Oceanic take a 2-1 series lead over Cape Breton winning that one 3-0.
The Mooseheads have placed the Wildcats on the brink of elimination, the final score in that one 4-2.
NBA:
The Raptors put up 120 points and that was enough to silence the Timberwolves in Minnesota. With the 120-100 victory, the Raptors improve to 58-24 on the season.
Following the Mavericks home win over the Suns, Dirk Nowitzki told fans in attendance that he had just played the final home game of his career.
MLB:
The Houston Astros got a big 6-3 win over the Yankees last night to improve their record to 7-5.
The Toronto Blue Jays scored 7 runs on 10 hits to overtake the slumping Red Sox 7-5.
NHL:
The Playoffs begin tonight!
Tampa Bay will host Columbus at 8pm.
Pittsburgh will begin the series in Long Island at 8:30.
St Louis will tangle with Winnipeg at 9pm.
Dallas and Nashville get underway at 10:30pm.
Vegas and San Jose start their series at 11:30pm.
Also, the NHL Draft Lottery was held last night.
The Devils secured the #1 pick.
The Rangers will scoop up the #2 pick.
Chicago won the #3 pick.
Edmonton will pick 8th, Vancouver will pick 10th and Montreal will draft 15th.
