Leo Fahey:
Two games were played in the Leo Fahey Ladies Twilight Softball League on Monday evening at the Albion Field in Stellarton
The Orioles and Red Sox played to a 9-9 tie in the evening’s first game.
Raylene Garby. Cheryle Jobe and Tracy Brine all had a double and single to pace the Orioles followed by two singles each
by Jana Cleary and Sherry Allan.
The Blue Jays erupted for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Yankees 10-9. The Blue Jays were led by Abygail Morrissey’s grand slam home run and triple, home runs by Bev Sheehan and Marla Davidson, and three singles each by Michelle Jeans, Jill Gratto, Judith Rogers and Debbie MacLean.
World Juniors:
At the World Juniors Summer Showcase, Team Finland routed Team Canada 8-3. The Fins scored 7 unanswered goals to start the game to embarrass the Canadians. Canada is in action again tomorrow afternoon against Sweden at 1pm.
MLB:
In baseball, some big moves at the deadline yesterday. The Astros were the team everyone was talking about, adding Zack Greinke, Martion Maldonado and a couple of former Blue Jays pitchers, Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini.
The Braves picked up RHPs Shane Greene, Chris Martin and Mark Melancon
The Mets picked up RHP Marcus Stroman.
