Local Hockey:

The Battle of the bridges kicks off this Saturday at 1pm from PEI, the Amherst Ramblers, Weeks Crushers, Summerside Capitals and Edmundston Blizzard will take part in a 4 team pre-season tournament to kick off MHL exhibition play.

Tennis:

In a highly-anticipated all-Canadian evening match, 20-year-old Denis Shapovalov easily downed 19-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 in the first-round at the US Open. Also Tuesday, Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil upset No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov in a match that nearly went four hours.

MLB:

The Blue Jays pounced early on Canadian Cy Young candidate Mike Soroka, and Toronto opened a two-game interleague series with a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves in Josh Donaldson’s return to Toronto Tuesday.

NHL:

Oulun Kärpät (Liiga) have signed forward Jesse Puljujarvi to a one-year contract.

The contract contains an NHL out clause should his situation with the Oilers be resolved by December 1st.

Mikko Rantanen has joined Storhamar Ishockey (GET-ligaen) – Norway while his contract situation gets worked out with the Colorado Avalanche.
