Bianca Andreescu advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open on Thursday with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Belgian veteran Kirsten Flipkens. Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov is into the third round as well, using his serve to overpower Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Vasek Pospisil was eliminated in his second-round match.

NFL:

The Miami Dolphins have named veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as their Week 1 starter next weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.The 36-year-old beat out 22-year-old sophomore Josh Rosen who was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals for a 2019 second-round pick and a 202 fifth-round pick in April.

NHL:

NHLPA Executive Board plus other players to meet Wednesday in Chicago for a CBA update discussion. Players have until Sept. 15 to decide on the CBA opt-out for 2020. The NHL has until Sunday to make the same decision. I would expect an announcement from the NHL by end of weekend
