MHL:
The first Crushers home pre-season game is in the books and it goes to the Bearcats. Truro took a 4 goal lead in the first period on 13 shots. The Crushers managed to come back though, scoring a goal in the final 3 minutes to make it 5-4 but the Bearcats would hold on for the victory. They back half of the home and home goes tomorrow night at the Rath Eastlink in Truro.
PCMHL:
The Northern Subway Selects Female Midget Team will take on Bussey Auto Broker Penguins Sunday at noon. That game was originally scheduled for Saturday but because of the impending hurricane it’s been moved to noon on Sunday at the Wellness Centre.
Tennis:
Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu has reached the final in her U.S. Open debut by beating No. 13 seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 7-6 (3), 7-5. The 19-year-old Andreescu is appearing in only her fourth Grand Slam tournament. She had never been past the second round at a major.
Andreescu will face a familiar foe in 37-year-old legend Serena Williams. The two played in last month’s Rogers Cup where Williams had to retire in the final after only four games due to back spasms.
NFL:
It was a rough way to kick off the NFL’s 100th season but the Bears and Packers battled to a 10-3 Packers victory. Despite Aaron Rodgers being sacked 5 times in the process.
MLB:
The Jays lose their 86th game of the year, 6-4 to the Rays.
