Multiple sources reported yesterday that Toronto and Edmonton will be chosen as the NHL Hub Cities for the upcoming summer playoffs if the league resumes.
The NHL has yet to confirm the reports but it’s expected to become official later on today. The NHL’s Eastern Conference will play in Toronto and the Western Conference will battle for the chance to win the Stanley Cup in Edmonton.
There are also reports that the NHL has a framework in place to begin the play-in games as early as late July.
TSN’s Frank Seravalli put it best.
“This year, the Stanley Cup truly would live up to the ‘toughest trophy to win in sports’ moniker. After the 16 playoff teams are decided by a best-of-five play-in series, the winner will be required to run the gauntlet in the usual four-round, best-of-seven climb – all while living in the same restrictive bubble for a period of upwards of 65 days.”
