Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard has received a wild card into the main draw of the French Open after reaching the final of the Istanbul Tennis Championship on Sunday.
Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., was awarded one of eight wild cards into the women’s main draw, which starts Sept. 27. Six went to French players, with the other going to U.S. Open quarterfinalist Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.
Golf:
Canada’s Brooke Henderson withdrew from the LPGA Tour’s Cambia Portland Classic on Monday due to poor air quality.
Henderson told The Canadian Press that she was withdrawing shortly after the LPGA shut down the course and practice facilities. A dense smoke advisory was in effect until 6 p.m. local time in the city of Portland, Ore., due to wildfires raging through California, Oregon, and Washington.
NFL:
Monday night football saw big Ben Roethlisberger throw for 229 yards and 3 TD’s to lift the Steelers over the Giants 26-16.
In the late game, Derrick Henry rushed for 116 yards on 31 carries as the Titans defeat the Broncos 16-14.
