FRIDAY VIOLENCE IN NEW GLASGOW ENDS PEACEFULLY, CHARGES LAID
A violent afternoon and evening Friday in New Glasgow kept Regional Police busy at a Hillcrest Avenue apartment complex where officials say a 66-year-old man with a gun barricaded himself in his apartment. In a separate incident around the same time, two police officers were stabbed.
In the gun and threats incident, Police and the New Glasgow Fire Department closed nearby streets to vehicles and pedestrians for several hours. That included temporary closure of New Glasgow Academy and the YMCA Daycare. At 9:10 Friday night, he was taken into custody under the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act.
No one was injured in the barricaded weapon incident. The man is charged with
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
The accused was being held in police custody Saturday morning.
2ND POLICE PROBE INTO LOCAL FRIDAY STABBINGS
Court dates are expected soon in this case, and in another late-Friday case of violence resulting in two local police officers being stabbed. Luckily the officers from the Stellarton and Westville police services have been treated and released from the Aberdeen hospital That case started with a 26-year-old man on Chisholm Street around 12:35 Friday afternoon.
During the police follow up, an altercation took place among the three officers working on the case and the 26-year-old who is now in custody and faces charges of :
- Attempted Murder.
- Three Counts of Uttering Threats.
- Two Counts of Breech of Probation.
- Two Counts of Assault with a Weapon.
- Two Counts of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous.
- Two Counts of Assaulting a Police Officer.
- Resisting Arrest.
Also in that case, a 60 year old woman is charged with Obstructing a Police Officer.
