FLAIR AIRLINES SAYS CHEAPER FLIGHTS COMING TO THE MARITIMES

Here’s a piece of good news, in what’s otherwise been a dismal pandemic year for the travel industry. Discount carrier Flair Airlines says it will start offering service to the Maritimes this spring and summer.
Flair, which bills itself as Canada’s only independent low-fare airline, announced flights will begin May 1st from Halifax and Saint John, and to and from Charlottetown on June 4th.
The Maritime flights are part of a broader expansion that includes eight new Canadian destinations.
Flair CEO Stephen Jones says “Canadians have been paying too much for too long, and we are changing that.” He also says “Providing affordable air travel within Canada is the first step in restarting travel and tourism.”

Outgoing Premier Stephen McNeil says our job as Nova Scotians is to outsmart the coronavirus. That’s why the COVID outbreak in Newfoundland means anyone returning from that province into Nova Scotia is now being mandated to quarantine for 14 days. That took effect this morning. ( at 8am Wed) Newfoundland announced 30 new coronavirus cases yesterday, with a large number of those from a St. John’s volleyball tournament, which is why Dr. Robert Strang says tournaments are banned here in Nova Scotia.

Dr. Robert Strang says there’s only one new COVID infection in Nova Scotia from his latest update, but it’s looking like community spread, since it’s a case in the Central Health Zone and is not somebody who has travelled.
Since Dec 15th, more than 18-thousand Nova Scotians have been given their doses of COVID 19 vaccine, with almost 2,000 more of the Pfizer vaccine coming this week, and four times that much coming into Nova Scotia next week.

Four vaccination clinics for health care workers are running this week in Halifax, Truro, Kentville and Yarmouth. In addition, 500 Nova Scotians over the age of 80 will be getting vaccination invitations to get their shots done at the I-W-K beginning February 22nd.

FLAGGED BUS STOPS COMING TO PICTOU COUNTY’S NEW URBAN CORE SERVICE

The Towns of New Glasgow and Stellarton have added new details to their fixed route transit service being operated by CHAD transit.
The fare to board the bus will be $3. A day pass will be $7.50, allowing you to board and un-board as many times as you like in one day with a day pass. Monthly passes are $70 for people ages 14—64, and they’re $60 for Seniors (65+) along with students at Pictou County high schools and the NSCC. Children ages 6 -13 can get a monthly bus pass for just $40, while children under five ride free.
The fixed stops will be Aberdeen Business Centre, New Glasgow Library, North End Rec Centre, Westside Shopping Plaza, Highland Square Mall, Pictou County Wellness Centre, the NSCC, the corner of Foord Street and Queen Street (near Tim Hortons), and the corner of East River Road and Pine Street (across the street from the Aberdeen hospital).
In addition to the fixed stops, they’re setting up a system of flagged bus stops along the bus route covering most of the Pictou County urban core, with the exception of the busiest streets.

Pictou County is looking for your opinion on its planning process and the rules surrounding land-use for wind energy. As a result, it’s doing drop-in style meetings around several locations. The first of those took place in Scotsburn last night. The next one takes place in Merigomish on February 22nd.
Pictou County is also encouraging off-highway vehicle riders to fill out a short online survey about the provincial Off-Highway Pilot Project aimed at 7 communities province-wide. They’re also looking for input from people who don’t use off-road machines. The Survey is open until Feb 21st & can be accessed at: https://novascotia.ca/ohv-pilot/
