Nova Scotia reported seven new cases of COVID-19 and eight recoveries yesterday. Six of those cases are in the Central Zone. Five of those are close contacts of previously reported cases and one is related to travel. The other case is in the Eastern Zone and is a close contact of a previously reported case. The close contacts are part of a linked group of families and do not represent wide community spread. As of today, Nova Scotia has 44 active cases of COVID-19. Of those, two people are in hospital and none are in the ICU. The Premier and Dr. Robert Strang will hold a COVID-19 briefing today at 3.
Several of Nova Scotia Health’s primary assessment centres and public health mobile units are offering drop-in COVID-19 testing to help make this service more accessible. Testing is open to anyone including out-of-province visitors just arriving to Nova Scotia. The Pictou County Assessment Centre here on East River Road will continue testing Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm.

New Glasgow – Pictou County Assessment Centre (678 East River Rd.)- Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Truro – Colchester Legion Stadium (14 Lorne St.)- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
A national initiative in support of Every Child Matters and First Nation peoples was announced yesterday afternoon by Lisa M. Smith, the CEO of Glen Haven Manor and Chief Andrea Paul of Pictou Landing First Nation. With the blessing and endorsement of Pictou Landing First Nation, the residents and staff of Glen Haven Manor are calling on every Canadian to gift one dollar each to assure the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools are found, have their spirits freed, are buried with dignity and that healing is supported. Monies can be etransferred to a special account that has been set up only for this purpose with all funds distributed to officially designated organizations across the nation that support these communities and survivors. Such organizations will be selected with approval from the Nova Scotia Assembly of Mi’kmaq Chiefs. All monies collected will be announced throughout the campaign and reported to Pictou Landing First Nation as well as to the Assembly. Pictou County District RCMP intercepted a vehicle travelling 175 km/hr on Highway 104 near New Glasgow yesterday morning around 10:30am. The 19 year old driver has been charged with stunting and faces a fine of $2422.50, six points on her license, and an immediate 7 day license suspension. The vehicle has been impounded. Road safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well. If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads, please report it by calling the RCMP at 1-800-803-RCMP (7267). If you believe it is an emergency, call 911.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Geoff MacLellan announced that the province will invest $25 million to address immediate investments recommended by the Nova Scotia Affordable Housing Commission to increase affordable housing. This investment will support new affordable housing units, repairs to public housing and building upgrades that will reduce emissions. The government will create an independent housing entity and look at modernizing laws and regulations around housing.
