The latest Nova Scotia election poll by Leger suggests that the Liberals are still ahead in Nova Scotia. The Leger poll shows that among decided voters, the Liberals are still ahead in Nova Scotia with 42% of the vote, followed by the Conservatives with 32%, the NDP with 20%, and the Greens with 5%. 1% would vote for another party. The survey was conducted among 300 Nova Scotia voters from July 31 to August 2. Nova Scotia’s Liberals have pegged the cost of their campaign commitments at 454.7 million dollars over four years. Party Leader Iain Rankin says 93.2 million is earmarked to be spent in the first year of a new mandate. Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Houston is promising that a PC government will increase Tourism Nova Scotia’s marketing budget by $2 million. And NDP Leader Gary Burrill is promising to improve access to health care by hiring more physician assistants. He says an NDP government would immediately add seven physician assistants to areas most in need of support at a cost of $700,000 in the first year.
Cumberland County District RCMP have charged a commercial truck driver after a collision on Hwy. 104 in Salt Springs. It was about 2:45pm Monday when police were on the scene responding to a different accident. An RCMP police car, that was sitting on the side of the road with it’s emergency lights activated, was struck from behind by the truck. An officer was sitting in the driver’s seat of the police car at the time. The officer was taken to hospital and later released with minor injuries. The driver of the commercial truck, who was not injured, was issued a ticket for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
Health officials reported two new cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia yesterday. The two cases were detected in the central area, which includes Halifax. One infection is travel related while the other is a contact of a previously reported case. The province now has 11 active infections, with one person in hospital.
Glen Haven Manor has announced that there will be expanded visiting opportunities in effect, Friday. Residents will be able to receive visitors between 10:00am-11:30am; 1:00pm-4:00pm and from 6:00-8:00pm daily, replacing the current scheduled visits. Visitors must sign in, be screened before entering the facility and sign out during these visiting hours. Only two visitors per resident at one time will be permitted and visitors must wear masks throughout the visit. Glen Haven Manor CEO Lisa M. Smith says these newly set visiting hours mark another milestone in the journey to keep residents and staff protected throughout the pandemic.
Gas prices are up 1.1 cents per litre in New Brunswick today, while diesel prices are up nine-tenths of a cent. Nova Scotia sets its fuel prices at midnight tonight.
