Three candidates have been announced for the race in Central Nova in the September 20th Federal Election. Liberal incumbent MP Sean Fraser is seeking re-election. Betsy MacDonald will be running for the NDP and running for the Conservatives in the election will be Steven Cotter who is currently a councilor in the Town of Trenton.
Tim Houston will name his cabinet during a ceremony tomorrow afternoon in Halifax. The ceremony will be broadcast live on television and online. The swearing-in will be divided into smaller ceremonies by party caucus, running consecutively: The Progressive Conservative caucus, 1 p.m, the Liberal Party caucus at 3:30 p.m, The NDP caucus at 5 p.m and an Independent memberat 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will also be available live at: https://nslegislature.ca/legislative-business/legislative-tv
The Westville Canada Day Committee has officially cancelled the already postponed Canada Day Parade which was scheduled for Sunday September 5th. It was hoped that the province would of met the 75% vaccination requirements by the 5th to move into Phase 5, however it is clear that it won’t be the case. That being said, there is some good news as KidsFest is still a go for Saturday September 4th, along with the Annual Show n’ Shine on September 5th at Victoria Park, and the fireworks sponsored by the Town Of Westville that evening at 9pm.
North Cumberland Memorial Hospital’s emergency department will not be open Monday, Aug. 30. It will be closed from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. It will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 31. The closure is due to unavailability of nursing staff. Anyone with urgent medical needs should call 911. For general health advice and information call 811, which is a service offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week by experienced registered nurses. And Nova Scotia Public Health is advising of two potential exposures to COVID-19 on two Air Canada flights. Anyone who was on the following flights in the specified rows and seats are required to follow the isolation and testing instructions in this table as a high risk contact.
- Air Canada 618 travelling on August 26 from Toronto (8:55 p.m.) to Halifax (11:56 p.m.). Passengers in rows 23-29, seats A, B, C and D. It is anticipated that anyone exposed to the virus on this flight on the named date may develop symptoms up to, and including, September 9.
- Air Canada 612 travelling on August 22 from Toronto (4:50 p.m.) to Halifax (7:51 p.m.). Passengers in rows 30-36, seats C, D, E and F. It is anticipated that anyone exposed to the virus on this flight on the named date may develop symptoms up to, and including, September 5.
