Police in New Glasgow charge man with dangerous driving, possession of a stolen motorcycle

New Glasgow Regional Police have charged a man with possession of a stolen motorbike, dangerous driving and several other offenses. Late Wednesday night, police spotted a motorcycle being driven dangerously as the driver failed to stop for a stop sign and was speeding through the East Side of New Glasgow. The driver lost control of the motorbike on Marsh Street where he was immediately arrested and taken into custody. No one was injured. A 21-year-old Pictou County man is facing charges of Dangerous Driving, Breach of Probation, Possession of Stolen Property-Motor Bike, Resist and Obstruct Police, and Refusal of an Alcohol Screening Device. He’s being held in custody and will appear in Provincial Court in Pictou on Monday.
More relief at the pumps this week in N.S.

Fuel prices have dropped again in Nova Scotia. Gas is down 5.7 cents overnight to 126.9 cents per litre in the local area. That’s the lowest gas prices have been in the area since May. Diesel is down 5.2 cents per litre to 126.8-cents per litre. The price of gas has gone down 13.3 cents per litre this week, after the province’s Utility and Review Board used the interrupter clause on Wednesday. Diesel has dropped a total of 12.3 cents this week.
N.S. reports 40 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday

Nova Scotia reported 40 new cases of COVID-19 and 29 recoveries on Thursday. There are 20 cases in Northern Zone, 18 cases in Central Zone and two cases in Western Zone. There is a new cluster of cases in a localized community in Northern Zone and there is also evidence of limited community spread in Halifax and parts of northern Nova Scotia. As of today, Nova Scotia has 214 active cases of COVID-19. Of those, 13 people are in hospital, including five in ICU.
Nova Scotia Health says two previously reported COVID-19 precaution notifications for sites in New Glasgow have been retracted. Those notifications were for:
- **RETRACTION** Boston Pizza (689 Westville Road, New Glasgow) on November 26 between 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- **RETRACTION** Pictou County Wellness Centre (2 – 2756 Westville Road, New Glasgow) on November 28 between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Anyone at those sites at those specified times is no longer considered to have had a potential exposure to COVID-19.
N.S. government to appeal ruling in disabilities discrimination case

The Nova Scotia government says it will appeal a recent court decision that found there was discrimination against people with disabilities. Two months ago, Premier Tim Houston said his government heard the Court of Appeal message “loud and clear,” and he pledged to work with the disabilities community. But an emailed comment yesterday from the Minister of Community Services appears to shift the Progressive Conservative government’s approach. MacFarlane says many questions arise from the Court of Appeal’s decision that she believes the country’s top court may help resolve, including how other social programs could be affected.
N.S. Health to offer free online substance use recovery program to adults in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia Health’s Mental Health and Addictions Program and Health Innovation Hub are piloting an online substance use recovery support program. It’s called Breaking Free Online, and it will be free and available for all Nova Scotians to sign up until March 31, 2022. Nova Scotians aged 18 and older are able to access Breaking Free Online by visiting www.breakingfreeonline.ca, entering their email address and using the service code NSBFO21
Today is X-Ring Day!

The X Ring ceremony at StFX is back to in-person this year. After last year’s ceremony went virtual, graduating StFX students will be able to accept their X Ring alongside their classmates at the X Ring presentation happening today at 3 p.m. Fall convocation coming up tomorrow at 3 p.m. will also be in person.
