On Sunday, 476 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Nova Scotia. 333 of those cases are in Central Zone, and 82 cases are in Eastern Zone, 43 cases in Northern Zone and 18 cases in Western Zone.Because of a spike in testing and positive cases, public health is experiencing some delays in follow-up. Public health will try to contact anyone confirmed positive by the lab within 24 hours to provide information on required isolation and testing. All cases will be asked to contact their close contacts. All close contacts, including those who are fully vaccinated, now need to isolate for 72 hours after the exposure and then get a lab-based (PCR) test. Those who are fully vaccinated can stop isolating after receiving a negative lab test. Those not fully vaccinated must continue to isolate.
Nova Scotia Community College has announced that because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, its Winter Term will now begin online. While the Winter Term will start as scheduled, all on campus learning and service delivery will be offered remotely until at least January 21st.
Checkpoints conducted late Friday and early Saturday as part of Operation Christmas Pictou County resulted in charges and a number of tickets issued. Officers charged three people for driving while impaired by alcohol and issued 24 Summary Offence Tickets. Offences ranged from no insurance, no license, expired inspection, driving while revoked, expired registration and driving after midnight with an N on driver’s license. Pictou County Law Enforcement Agencies will continue to conduct checkpoints throughout the holidays with a goal to eliminate impaired driving.
New Glasgow Regional Police are asking the public for help in locating two stolen vehicles. One, a red 2020 Kia Sportage LX with Nova Scotia license plate GDU 401, was reported stolen early Sunday morning. The other, a black 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with Nova Scotia license plate GWC 078, was stolen sometime between December 14th and 19th. Anyone with information on either of the vehicle is asked to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Colchester County District RCMP are investigating three suspicious fires that occurred in Bible Hill. At about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, RCMP responded to a break-in on Wild Chance Dr. The homeowner returned home to a house full of smoke. Investigation determined that someone had entered the home through an open window and a sweater had been set on fire. At 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP and Fire responded to a fire call on Wild Chance Dr. and noted a deck on fire. While on scene at that fire, members were advised of another fire nearby on Bomber Dr. which was extinguished by the homeowner. The exterior of the house had been on fire. No one was injured during the incidents, and the cause of the fires is under investigation.
