CCRCE Buses travelling on paved roads only today

Buses will be running on paved roads only for all CCRCE schools. This means students will be picked up in the morning and dropped off in the afternoon at the bus stop on the paved road nearest their residence. Monday, March 7, 2022.
Province enters Phase 2 of reopening plan today

Phase 2 of Nova Scotia’s reopening plan went into effect first thing this morning. Phase two means an increase in gathering limits with larger facilities able to operate at 75 percent capacity up to a maximum of 5000 spectators for large events. Bars and restaurants will be able to welcome more customers due to changes allowed with seating configurations in distancing. All restrictions that have been in place for nearly two years will come to an end across Nova Scotia on March 21st. Another change going into effect regarding COVID-19 is that Nova Scotia is moving to weekly reporting now regarding the COVID-19 situation in the province. The next COVID-19 release and update will be on Thursday.
Nova Scotia Health’s COVID-19 vaccine outreach clinics will be offering drop-in vaccines across the province this week. Locations include: Scotsburn Fire Hall (Pfizer – anyone age 5+) Monday, March 7 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Tatamagouche Fire Hall (Pfizer – anyone age 5+) Tuesday, March 8 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Nova Scotia fuel prices hit all-time high

The escalation in fuel prices continued over the weekend with an unscheduled adjustment on Saturday when the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board invoked the interrupter. Gas prices rose 8.7 cents to 176.4 cents per litre locally, while diesel rose 6.5 cents on Saturday to 191.3 cents per litre in the local area.
Home struck by gunfire in Stellarton Friday morning

Stellarton Police Service is investigating after a home in the community was struck by gunfire early Friday morning (March 4). Officers responded around 1:10 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of Foster Avenue and Foord Street, and found a residence that had been struck by multiple bullets. Police say no injuries were reported. Anyone with information on the incident, or video from the area, is asked to contact Stellarton Police or Crime Stoppers.
Police and Fire Department respond to a two-motor vehicle collision Friday night in New Glasgow

No injuries are reported after a two-vehicle crash Friday shortly before 10:00pm on East River Road in New Glasgow. New Glasgow Regional Police and New Glasgow Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash. Both vehicles involved sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate
Pictou District RCMP investigating theft of firearms

Pictou County District RCMP are investigating a break-in at a home on Three Brooks Road in Three Brooks that resulted in the theft of firearms. Police got the call Thursday morning about the break-in. In their investigation, police learned that during the break-in, 10 firearms were stolen, including a revolver, a pistol, shotguns and a rifle. A crossbow was also stolen. Police have identified a black sedan as being involved in the break-in. Anyone with video surveillance on their property, or who observed a black sedan on Three Brooks Rd. between 5:30-7:30 a.m. on March 3, is asked to contact Pictou County District RCMP at 902-755-4141.
PM arrives in U.K. to start four-country consult with allies on Ukraine response

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will confer with Canada’s allies about the growing crisis in Ukraine. Trudeau is in London for talks today with the prime ministers of Britain and the Netherlands. He’ll also be meeting with the secretary-general of NATO and Canadian Armed Forces members deployed in Latvia during his whirlwind overseas tour.
Three names on the ballot to fill vacant seat on Westville Town Council

Advance Polls got underway in Westville’s Special Election over the weekend. The next advance poll is tomorrow (Tuesday) noon until 8pm and Election Day is set for this Saturday (March 12th) from 8am until 7pm. The Candidates are: Bernie Murphy, Jeff Fulton and Tim Clark. Voting will take place at Westville Town Gym and Government ID’s are required. The seat became vacant following the passing of councillor Betty Jean Sutherland in December of last year.
