Fuel prices up in New Brunswick today

Fuel prices are up in New Brunswick today. Gas increased 1.9 cents per litre to $1.728. Diesel jumped 10.4 cents $1.885 cents per litre. Nova Scotia sets its fuel prices at midnight tonight.
New food bank to be built in River John

The provincial government is investing $651,000 in a new food bank to be built in River John, Pictou County. The Community Support Society of River John will operate the food bank, which will include an emergency food pantry, a community garden and greenhouses, and offer educational food literacy programs. The facility will also be used by local groups including the 4-H Club, local church groups, health services and the River John ladies’ group.
Premier Houston to Chair Council of Atlantic Premiers Meeting

The four Atlantic premiers are scheduled to meet on Monday for their first in-person meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council of Atlantic Premiers will gather in Halifax. Travel restrictions and high case numbers have prevented their in-person meetings over the last two years. The gathering will be hosted by Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston. The premiers will discuss the possibility of adopting permanent daylight time, as well as the economy, healthcare, immigration and energy.
A source in the federal government says an announcement on updated COVID-19 testing rules at Canada’s border is coming this week. The source says vaccinated travellers will no longer require a negative COVID-19 test to come to Canada as of April 1st.
Province announces $3 million for mental health and addictions projects

The province has announced three million dollars in funding for mental health and addictions projects. The government says eligible organizations and services will be able to apply this summer for funding in the form of grants administered by the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Priority will be given to organizations that serve Indigenous communities, members of LGBTQ communities, African Nova Scotians, newcomers and people with disabilities.
The Province is creating a new engagement table on child care and is inviting interested Nova Scotians to apply to be members. The Early Learning and Child Care Engagement Table will provide input and advice to Nova Scotia’s Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development around implementing the Canada Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. The table will have 10 to 18 members and include people who work in the sector, operators, parents and others. Those interested in being a member of the engagement table are encouraged to submit an application by April 8, using the online form at: https://www.ednet.ns.ca/childcare
N.S. Department of Natural Resources recommends removing bird feeders to stop avian flu spread

Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources is recommending that people in the province take down their bird feeders to prevent the spread of bird flu. The department also recommends that residents not handle wild birds, as the virus can be spread through contact with the animals’ bodily fluids.
Advance weekend passes for this summer’s Pictou Lobster Carnival go on sale this week

The 2022 Pictou Lobster Carnival, set for July 8th – 10th, will be releasing a limited number of advance weekend passes for sale through the deCoste Centre box office beginning on Friday. The shows will be featuring headliners Classified, The Stanfields, Jimmy Rankin, and Dave Gunning, and prices for those advance weekend passes are based on age:
1) Advance 19 year-old and over weekend pass = $35 + ticketing fees
2) Advance 13-18 year-old weekend pass = $15 + ticketing fees
3) Children 12 years and under are free for entry and do not require passes
The box office hours at the deCoste Centre for phone or in-person purchases is Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm with the added bonus of online sales being available at any time at www.decostecentre.ca
