Gas and diesel prices both went up overnight in Nova Scotia.
Gas prices rose by 7.0 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self serve gas locally at 216.2 cents per litre.
Diesel prices increased by 5.6 cents per litre, putting the pump price at 213.8 in the local area..
New Glasgow Regional Police have arrested three people for multiple offences as a result of an investigation by New Glasgow Regional Police, including the Major Crime Unit.
Charges resulted after police received several reports of property damage done to green bins and stolen vehicles throughout New Glasgow, between Monday and Wednesday.
All stolen vehicles have been recovered and Police have arrested and charged three males aged 18, 15 and 14, all from Pictou County, with 3 Counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle, 3 Counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.00, 4 Counts of Trespassing at Night, and 19 Counts of Mischief.
The 15-year-old is also charged with Dangerous Driving.
All three have been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Provincial Court in Pictou on June 13.
Antigonish County District RCMP have charged a man after two attempted robberies occurred in Antigonish.
On Monday at about 7:50 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station on Hwy. 4 in Antigonish.
Police say the suspect passed a note to an employee telling her to empty the till, but fled without getting any money when another customer walked in.
About 5 minutes later, there was another report of a robbery at a restaurant on James St. in Antigonish involving the same man, who police say again left with no money.
The suspect was located by RCMP a short time later, and they say he resisted when officers were making the arrest.
The 31-year old Antigonish man has been charged with Robbery (2 counts); Resist Arrest; and Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order (2 counts).
Antigonish County District RCMP have charged a man with arson in connection with a fire near exit 38 on Hwy. 104 in Havre Boucher (Harv-er bushie).
On the night of April 12, Antigonish County District RCMP received a report of the fire that had just been set.
The fire was extinguished by the local volunteer fire department and no injuries were reported.
Over the course of the next 6 weeks, RCMP investigators continued to gather information and evidence, and on May 26, a 24-year-old Antigonish man was arrested.
The 24-year old has been charged with Arson.
He’s been released from custody on conditions and will appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on June 29th.
Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting 21 COVID-19-related deaths since April 25th.
Nineteen of the 21 deaths involved people at least 70 years of age.
The province also reported 1,474 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 49 hospitalizations during the seven-day period ending June 6.
The number of new PCR-positive tests has decreased; however, hospital admissions have increased.
Officials are advising the public to gather outside when possible, stay up to date on vaccinations and stay home if you are sick.
The Nova Scotia government has announced a pilot project to test a new funding model for family doctors aimed at making it easier for patients to get care.
The new blended payment model that compensates family doctors based on how many patients they have and the number of services they provide was first negotiated by Doctors Nova Scotia in 2019.
Family physicians are currently paid only for the number of services they provide.
The province says that under the new model, doctors will also work together in a clinic — meaning more appointments could be available the same or next day and on evenings and weekends.
Nova Scotia will put 8.6-million dollars towards offering more in-home care support to seniors and people who need health care at home.
The funding will go towards day programs and supportive medical equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, beds and bathroom safety equipment.
Seniors and long-term care Minister Barbara Adams announced the funding today, and said in a statement she hopes the cash will help improve the well-being of older Nova Scotians.
Susan Stevens, the director of continuing care in Nova Scotia, says the goal is to help more people live longer at home in their communities.
