Pictou County District RCMP say they were called to a home on Gairloch Rd. in Rocklin shortly before 11:00pm on Tuesday.
They were told about an incident that began with a small group of people searching the woods on Gairloch Rd. for a missing dog when they heard a gun shot being fired behind a home.
They say they pulled into the home’s driveway and were met by a man who was brandishing a firearm and told them to get out of his driveway, threatening to shoot them while pointing the firearm at them.
They left the driveway, called police and no one was injured.
The man was released on conditions and surrendered all of his firearms as part of the conditions of his release.
He will be facing charges of Careless Use of a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm and Uttering Threats, and is due in court on September 19th.
The law firm representing the families of 14 people killed in the Nova Scotia mass shooting in 2020 says they’re reconsidering their participation in the inquiry into the killings.
Lawyer Michael Scott says the families are extremely upset that key witnesses, including the gunman’s spouse, are being shielded from cross-examination.
The inquiry said last week that Lisa Banfield would not be subject to cross-examination from families’ lawyers because she’s a survivor of the killer’s violence and had already been interviewed by inquiry investigators.
Emergency Health Services in Nova Scotia is hiring 100 more transport operators to help reduce pressure on ambulance services.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the new, non-paramedic staff will handle routine transfers of low-risk patients, freeing up paramedics to focus on responding to emergency calls.
The move will more than double the number of medical transport operators in the province to 180 and comes amid complaints of long wait times for ambulances.
The province says E-H-S responded to an average of 500 calls per day last year, and just under a third did not require medical care during transport.
The Nova Scotia Liberals will elect a new leader this weekend, and the party says it has more than three-thousand-400 registered delegates who are eligible to vote.
This eligible voter group is less than half of what it was in February 2021 during the Liberal’s last leadership race.
According to Liberal Party records there were more than
eight-thousand-100 eligible voters for the last leadership election that made Iain Rankin Nova Scotia’s premier.
Rankin announced in January he’d step down as soon as the party elected a new leader, and legislature members Angela Simmonds from Preston and Zach Churchill from Yarmouth are now running for the spot.
