The MV Holiday island will be out of service for the rest of the season due to the fire that broke out in the engine room on Friday.
Northumberland Ferries Vice-president Don Cormier says they are still assessing the ship for stability and have not been able to check the extent of the damage to the engine room.
Officials at Transport Canada say that the ship will be out for the rest of the season and they are exploring ways to replace the service.
All ferry trips between Nova Scotia and PEI have been canceled for today, and they are expecting to return Tuesday.
Residents of Valley View Villa in Riverton were evacuated from their long-term care facility yesterday.
Marcus Stephenson, the administrator for the Long-term care home, said he was told by the fire department that the home was being evacuated due to a chemical in one of the resident’s rooms.
Everyone was evacuated safely and there are no reports of any illness or injury as a result of the incident.
A 52-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Antigonish on Saturday.
Police learned when they arrived to the crash site that a motorcycle traveling on the highway left the road before ending up in a ditch.
The driver of the motorcycle, a Truro man was transported to hospital by LifeFlight with serious life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
Rogers Communications has said in a statement that the massive outage that occurred on July 8th was due to a malfunction that occurred during a network update.
The outage wiped out cell phone service and internet services for Rogers customers, as well as causing many businesses to not be able to take Interac debit payments.
Rogers also said it has hired a third party to review and provide insights on what happened.
Officials from Rogers and a slew of other stakeholders are set to appear in Ottawa today to further explain the cause of the outage, and to outline the steps they are taking to make sure it won’t happen again.
