New Glasgow Regional Police have charged two impaired drivers with multiple charges after two separate motor vehicle traffic stops.
On August 26, 2022, at 9:00 p.m, New Glasgow Regional Police charged a 18-year-old male driver from Pictou County with Impaired Driving during a traffic stop on Summer Street New Glasgow. He was also charged with underage drinking and failing to comply with the provisions of having a zero-blood alcohol level as a newly licensed driver.
On August 28, 2022, at 2:10 a.m., New Glasgow Regional Police charged a 47-year-old female driver from Pictou County with Impaired Driving during a traffic stop on Riverside Parkway New Glasgow. The woman was also charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and having an expired license plate.
Both drivers are scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court at a later date.
The chair of the public inquiry into the April 2020 mass shooting said the commission will be focused on issuing recommendations in its third and final phase of work. In a statement read at the hearings in Halifax, Michael MacDonald said the commission is committed to doing its utmost to ensure that its findings help prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. The last phase of the inquiry began on Monday, and will be focussed on developing recommendations
Fifteen communities will receive support for water, wastewater, stormwater and solid waste projects through the Provincial Capital Assistance Program.
The Provincial Capital Assistance Program allows the Province to contribute funds to priority municipal infrastructure projects.
Projects include water and sewer line extensions
Among the funding announced, the Town of New Glasgow will receive $89,946 for the Forbes Lake west side berm rehabilitation project.
The Canadian Coast Guard has officially dedicated the fisheries research vessel Capt. Jacques Cartier. Faith Scattolon, a former Fisheries Department regional director general for the Maritimes, broke a bottle on the ship’s bow during a dockside gathering at a government wharf in Halifax. The coast guard ship Capt. Jacques Cartier, like its two sister ships Sir John Franklin and John Cabot, is equipped to support scientists in collecting data on Canada’s marine ecosystems and the impacts of climate change. The vessel’s suite of research systems includes fishing trawls and four science labs.
