The coffin of Queen Elizabeth has left Buckingham Palace for the last time saluted by cannons and the tolling of Big Ben, in a solemn procession through the streets of London to Westminster Hall.
The military procession underscored Elizabeth’s 70-year reign as the national mourning process shifted to the grand boulevards and historic landmarks of the U-K capital.
At 900-year-old Westminster Hall, where the queen will lie in state until her funeral Monday, crowds shuffled past her coffin well into the night.
The chairman of Nova Scotia’s mass shooting inquiry has raised concerns over how budget restraint on the agency that reviews complaints against the R-C-M-P may be a barrier to accountability.
Michael MacDonald asked whether it was a blatant affront to the independence of the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the R-C-M-P, that it has to notify the federal Public Safety minister on whether funds exist to open a probe of a case.
Although it has the power to start its own inquiries, agency chairwoman Michelaine Lahaie confirmed that she must first send a letter to the minister, and provide assurances that there are enough resources.
Lahaie says ensuring enough funding is an issue of concern and it’s something she’s told the Parliamentary committee that oversees public safety and national security.
Some slight changes overnight in fuel prices in New Brunswick.
Gasoline prices went down by 1.9 cents per litre to a maximum of 159.1 cents per litre for regular self-serve.
Diesel prices inched up one-tenth of a cent in New Brunswick overnight to a maximum of 204.2 cents per litre.
Nova Scotia sets its fuel prices at midnight tonight.
Due to weather conditions, Northumberland Ferries is cancelling some crossings today between Nova Scotia and PEI.
It’s cancelling the crossings by the MV Saaremaa today from Wood Islands at 11:30am, 3:30pm and 7:00pm, and from Caribou at 9:30am, 1:30pm and 5:15pm.
All other crossings will proceed as scheduled.
The Town of New Glasgow is inviting citizens to apply to serve on the Community Development Advisory Committee.
The Committee helps Council with achieving goals and objectives for events, arts/culture, tourism, and recreation.
There are vacant positions for two Citizen Representatives from Ward Three, and one Citizen Representative from Ward One.
They are three-year terms.
