You’re paying a little more for gasoline today in Nova Scotia. Gas prices rose by 3.5 cents per litre in the province overnight. However, diesel prices decreased by 3.9 cents per litre.
Nova Scotia is reporting 33 deaths from COVID-19 for the month of August, up from 22 deaths reported in July.
Of those who died from the virus, 82 per cent were aged 70 and older.
The province’s monthly COVID-19 data also shows that about six-thousand 900 people tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
This is down from the about eight-thousand 600 people who tested positive for the virus in July.
There are 123 Nova Scotia Health employees off work this week due to COVID-19.
That means they tested positive for the virus or were exposed to it as of yesterday, or that they’re awaiting results of a COVID-19 test.
Of those employees off work, 40 are in the western zone and 59 are in the central zone, which includes Halifax.
There are also 13 workers off in the northern zone and 12 in the eastern zone.
Nova Scotia is offering a fall dose of Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine to people 12 years and older, beginning with those who are most vulnerable.
People aged 65 or older can book their appointment beginning Monday.
People who are 18 or older and living in long-term care facilities or other congregate living settings, such as shelters or correctional facilities, will also be offered a dose.
Appointments for fall doses will be available in the coming weeks to Nova Scotians, based on age, who don’t meet those criteria.
A report submitted to the inquiry investigating the April 2020 mass shooting in rural Nova Scotia says the gunman who killed 22 people was known to exchange denture work for sex and to exploit marginalized women.
The report by members of the Avalon Sexual Assault Centre and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund details findings from meetings held in the Halifax area with survivors of the man’s violence and others who interacted with the killer.
The report says participants in these meetings said the gunman, who worked as a denturist, used his clinics to exploit African Nova Scotian women and sex workers.
