Members of the Royal Family were able to bid a final, private farewell to Queen Elizabeth Monday evening.
The late monarch was interred together with her husband, Prince Philip, in a relatively small ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The service was closed to the media, following an elaborate state funeral earlier in the day that was broadcast around the world.
Canadians gathered in multiple cities to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth Monday.
A national tribute service was held at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa, attended by a who’s-who of political elite.
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and most of the Liberal cabinet were in attendance, as were Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and the N-D-P’s Jagmeet Singh.
Brian Mulroney and Joe Clark, the only living prime ministers who were unable to make the trip to London for the state funeral, were also at the Ottawa service.
The 500 seats at Halifax’s Cathedral Church of All Saints were filled by politicians, military officers and community members for Nova Scotia’s provincial tribute service for the late queen.
The ceremony began with a smudging of sage and a prayer from Mi’kmaq elder Marlene Companion.
Premier Tim Houston spoke about the Queen’s great impact on Nova Scotians and said she was a symbol of service and humility.
The full cathedral sang God Save the King and a 21-gun salute began at Citadel Hill as the tribute came to an end.
A powerful hurricane that has caused damage in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico is expected to intensify over the next few days as it moves northward towards Atlantic Canada.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre says it is monitoring Hurricane Fiona, although it’s too early to predict its potential effect in the region.
The storm is currently showing a track off Nova Scotia and Newfoundland sometime this coming weekend.
Rescue teams are spreading out across Puerto Rico after hurricane Fiona dumped more than 700 millimetres of rain on the U-S Territory.
Witnesses say the devastation includes pavement stripped from roadways, roofs torn off and sent flying, and homes quickly inundated by torrents of rushing water.
Two deaths have been attributed to the category 2 storm, including a Puerto Rican man who was swept away by a flooded river.
Meanwhile, a person in the Dominican Republic, which has also been hammered, was killed by a falling tree.
