Post-tropical storm Fiona largely impacted most of the province over the weekend.
High winds and rain caused widespread power outages and property damage to places across Atlantic Canada.
Downed power poles and trees are littered throughout every community.
Winds measured upwards of 150km.h in some parts of the province.
As of Last night over 200,000 customers were still in the dark according to Nova Scotia Power, with some of the restoration times in Pictou County spanning into late Thursday night.
A request by Nova Scotia for the assistance of the Canadian Armed Forces to help with restoring power and cleanup efforts has been approved.
Speaking at a news conference Saturday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Ottawa has also approved Nova Scotia’s request for funding for disaster assistance to help municipalities repair damaged infrastructure, and to assist individuals and small businesses pay for uninsured losses.
Trudeau also announced any donations made to the red cross in the next 30 days to assist with Post-tropical storm Fiona relief will be matched by the federal government.
A 4-year-old boy who went missing in Springville Saturday Evening has been located and is safe.
Grady MacKinnon went missing around 5pm Saturday evening while playing outside when he wandered off.
Over 100 people joined in the search for MacKinnon which spanned into Sunday Morning
Grady was found safe in a field around 2km from where he went missing.
The parents of the 4-year-old said they have “no words” to describe how thankful they are for the community members from Pictou County and across the province for all their help in bringing him home safely.
The body of a woman that was reported missing Saturday morning in Port Aux Basques has been found deceased.
RCMP said that the 73-year-old woman’s body was located and recovered shortly after 4pm on Sunday, along with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard and the Stephenville and Barachois Search and Rescue teams.
She was reported missing Saturday morning when she was washed out of her home by the storm.
Her body has been transported to the office of the Chief medical Officer to be examined further.
Her home was among the more than 20 that were destroyed, and hundreds are still displaced, as the storm left boulders and debris scattered across the community.
All public Schools in the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education will be closed today, as many schools are still without power.
StFX University will be closed until at least 5pm today.
NSCC’s Pictou Campus is canceling all classes, services, and events until further notice, however the building will be open to allow students, staff, and members of the community to charge devices.
