More increases in fuel prices overnight in Nova Scotia, as gas prices rose 4.4 cents per litre and diesel prices went up by 11.5 cents per litre.
The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gas is now 170.7 cents per litre in the local area, and diesel costs you 239.3 cents per litre locally.
The name of R-C-M-P officer Heidi Stevenson will be added to the Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial outside Halifax City Hall on Sunday.
Stevenson was killed in the line of duty on April 19th, 2020 as she tried to track down a lone gunman who killed 22 people during a 13-hour rampage.
The ceremony at Grand Parade in downtown Halifax will mark the 40th anniversary for the memorial Service.
The service will start with a parade that will include peace officers, first responders, civilian employees, military personnel and volunteers.
The Nova Scotia government has introduced legislation to ensure local telecommunications companies are better prepared to handle major storms like post-tropical storm Fiona.
The proposed law will require telecom companies to take all possible precautions to provide continued phone service during a weather event or other emergency, as well as provide customers with a credit for lost service.
The minister responsible for the Emergency Management Office says many customers were still paying for cellphone service even after Fiona had knocked out many services on September 24th.
John Lohr says the province needs to see significant improvements or the telecom companies could face fines of up to 250-thousand dollars a day.
The Speaker of Nova Scotia’s legislature has confirmed that he has signed a resignation letter at the request of Premier Tim Houston.
Keith Bain spoke yesterday following a news release issued by the Progressive Conservative caucus saying that he had provided his resignation as Speaker effective April 1st.
Bain says Houston asked him to resign because of his strict handling of health protocols during a COVID-19 outbreak last spring and because of his call for an independent review of the salaries of members of the legislature as required following the August 2021 election.
Houston refused to discuss details of the letter or even whether he had asked Bain to resign.
New Brunswick’s Education Minister, Dominic Cardy, resigned yesterday. Cardy announced he was quitting, sending a resignation letter that criticizes Premier Blaine Higgs for dictatorial tendencies and berating a civil servant.
Cardy says in his letter that Higgs has steadily consolidated power, created a disrespectful work atmosphere for public servants, and undermined work on reconciliation with First Nations.
