Officers are responding this morning to a report of an assault involving several people in the Nelson Road area of Millbrook, Pictou Co.

The RCMP says an incident in the Nelson Road area of Millbrook has ended safely and an individual is in custody.

RCMP responded this morning to a report of an assault involving several people and said that one man was armed.

RCMP say no one was injured.

 

 

Health ministers from all provinces and territories are to meet with their federal counterpart Monday and Tuesday to discuss the ills plaguing care systems.

Advocacy groups representing doctors and nurses are urging ministers to retain workers through incentives like mental health supports.

The president of the Canadian Medical Association, Doctor Alika Lafontaine, says the collapse of the primary care system is spilling beyond emergency rooms and into other parts of hospitals as well as into long-term care due to cost-cutting.

 

 

After two long days at the bargaining table with the assistance of a Conciliator on Friday and Sunday, the bargaining committee representing striking school support workers in the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education says the two sides have reached a tentative agreement.

That tentative agreement is being recommended for acceptance by the committee.

Information sessions and a ratification vote will be held for Local 73 on Tuesday.

No details on the tentative agreement will be publicly disclosed until members have had an opportunity to review the tentative agreement and vote.

The deal was concluded at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

It is anticipated that Local 70’s bargaining committee, representing striking school support workers in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education will be called back to the table very soon.

 

 

With a little help from the community, a pod of stranded dolphins made it back to the waters in Digby.

A woman who spotted the dolphins on a mudflat contacted the Marine Animal Response Society, and some friends to pull together a team to rescue the dolphins.

About four hours later — where people were covered in mud and had lost shoes and socks — all 16 stranded Atlantic white-sided dolphins went home and tired but elated rescuers trudged back to theirs.

 

 

A traffic note — be advised that the traffic lights on Westville Road/George Shaw Way (Walmart intersection) will be out of service on Tuesday from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for a traffic controller replacement.

Temporary Stop signs will be installed and police will control traffic during the boot up. The intersection will function as a 4-Way stop for all traffic.
