Nova Scotia Power continues to work on restoring power to areas that lost power with the strong winds that hit the province in the overnight hours Thursday morning.
The utility is reporting multiple outages in our area and across the province.
Early Friday morning, Nova Scotia Power was reporting nearly 370 outages affecting more than 3,100 customers.
Gas and diesel prices went down overnight in Nova Scotia.
Gas prices decreased by 6.2 cents per litre putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.51 locally.
Diesel prices dropped by 1.6 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is now $2.43 in the local area.
Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting one new death related to COVID-19 in the week covering November 22nd to the 28th.
Another 14 deaths from a previous unspecified time period were also added to the provincial dashboard yesterday.
The province also reported 544 new lab-confirmed cases of the virus.
The province’s health authority says 249 people are currently in hospital with COVID-19 with six patients in intensive care.
Case data for influenza in Nova Scotia was also released on Thursday, and it shows that the number of influenza cases between November 20th and 26th more than doubled from the previous week.
During the latest period, there were 524 new cases of influenza, compared to 201 cases the previous week.
Officials confirmed eight deaths among people with lab-confirmed influenza, although they caution that influenza wasn’t necessarily a major contributing cause of death or hospitalization.
The Town of New Glasgow is offering 3-hour metered parking by donation in the Downtown core for the month of December during the holiday season.
All funds collected through the meters in the month of December will be donated to the Pictou County Fuel Fund.
Glasgow Square parking lot is also free for customer parking and employees in Downtown New Glasgow are encouraged to park in the free parking lot near the Farmers Market Dome.
A sports note, in the Maritime Junior Hockey league, the Pictou County Weeks Crushers dumped the South Shore Lumberjacks 7-1 at the Wellness Centre.
