Gas and diesel prices both went down overnight in Nova Scotia.
Gas prices decreased by 1.3 cents per litre putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 141.0 cents per litre locally.
Diesel prices fell by 11.7 cents per litre, so diesel now costs 220.2 cents per litre in the local area.
Nova Scotia says it recorded nearly 2,600 cases of COVID-19 during the month of November.
That’s down from more than 4,750 cases identified in October’s monthly report.
In November, 24 people died from COVID-19 in Nova Scotia and 158 people were hospitalized due to the virus.
Weekly case data for influenza in Nova Scotia has also been released.
For the week of December 4-10, there were 686 new cases of influenza A, with 100 people in hospital and eight people being treated in ICU.
That’s up slightly from the previous week when there were 673 cases of influenza A, with 94 hospitalizations and nine ICU admissions.
The new commander of the R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia says he plans to issue a public apology for the Mounties’ use of street checks in the past.
Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley acknowledged that the practice was banned three years ago after it was determined that it disproportionately targeted Black people.
Halifax Regional Police apologized in November 2019.
Daley says the Nova Scotia R-C-M-P need to “acknowledge the impact that street checks made on the African Nova Scotian community.”
The federal government says that come the spring, public servants will be required to work at least two to three days a week in person, or between 40 to 60 per cent of their regular schedule.
Treasury Board President Mona Fortier made the announcement Thursday, saying in-person work better supports collaboration, team spirit, innovation and a culture of belonging.
The requirements come into effect March 31st, and while it will be a change for some departments, many public servants already work in person several days a week.
