Diesel prices dropped by 11.9 cents per litre overnight in Nova Scotia, while it was status quo with gas prices with no change at all.
The minimum pump price for diesel is now 181.5 cents per litre in the local area.
Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 dashboard was updated on Thursday, and the update includes two reporting periods.
From December 20 to December 26, there were 35 new hospitalizations, 687 new PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths reported.
Just one of those deaths occurred during the reporting period.
For the period of December 27 to January 3, there were 41 new hospitalizations, 866 new PCR-confirmed cases and seven deaths reported.
None of those deaths occurred during the reporting period.
Nova Scotia’s Minimum Wage Review Committee is calling for the province to more quickly boost the rate to 15-dollars an hour to help attract and retain workers and keep up with other provinces.
The province’s minimum wage is currently $13.60 an hour, but a report submitted by the committee says it should be increased by 90 cents on April 1st and another 50 cents on October 1st.
That’s an acceleration from recommendations accepted last year that would have seen Nova Scotia’s minimum wage hit 15-dollars an hour on April 1st of 2024.
The provincial government says it will seek input from community partners before making a decision on the recommendations.
The estimate for the insurance cost to date of hurricane Fiona in Atlantic Canada has now reached 800 million dollars.
That’s according to Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc., which made an initial estimate in October 2022 of 660 million dollars.
The September 24th storm now sits as the seventh-largest catastrophe in Canada’s history in terms of insured damages.
Damage resulted from torrential rainfall, large waves, storm surges, downed trees and widespread power outages.
