Gasoline and diesel prices both went up overnight in Nova Scotia.
The price of gasoline increased by 4.9 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gas at 160.7 cents per litre locally.
The price of diesel increased by 14.9 cents per litre to 212.4 cents per litre in the local area.
On Thursday, the province reported 12 COVID-19 related deaths in Nova Scotia, and all of those deaths occurred during previous reporting periods – not in the past week.
A total of 687 new PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday with a daily average of 98 cases.
That’s an increase from the 599 cases reported the previous period.
There are 242 people in hospital with COVID-19.
The Nova Scotia government says applications are open for 5.8-million dollars in funding to help 180 organizations buy and install generators at community centres.
It’s coming from a program aimed at equipping community centres so they can serve as a gathering space during power outages.
The program was announced last fall in the wake of post tropical storm Fiona, which knocked out electricity to a record 405-thousand Nova Scotia Power customers.
The province increased funding for the Community Generator Program by four-million dollars last month to meet community demand.
The Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia has announced $200-thousand in funding for ten initiatives to support women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals.
The funding is through the Fund for Gender Equality.
The Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia is one of 21 local community foundations across the country that are taking part.
In total, those community foundations are granting over $3.4-million towards the gender equality movement.
There will be fireworks taking place at the North End Recreation Centre tonight at 8:30 p.m. for their Winter Carnival.
Nearby residents are asked to prepare accordingly to protect loved ones with sensory issues and/or pets who may be startled by fireworks.
