New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a man from Pictou County with an indecent act following an incident in New Glasgow. On January 31st, New Glasgow Regional Police received several reports of a man performing an indecent act in a business and posting it online. The man was arrested without incident. The 35-year-old man has been charged with Committing an Indecent Act and Two Counts of Breech of Probation. He was also charged with committing an indecent act and a breech of probation on January 23, 2023 at another local business. He was Remanded into Custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court on February 1, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. The investigation is continuing.
The Nova Scotia government has entered into a $365-million, 10-year agreement with a health technology firm for the design and management of a digital medical record program. The “One Person One Record” system will start rolling out in two years at hospitals and other medical facilities in Nova Scotia. The system will replace or connect more than 80 existing medical record systems, allowing thousands of health-care workers access to real-time patient data. The digital record system can reduce surgery wait times, cut down on duplicate medical testing and improve emergency care.
Seven community hubs in Pictou County are getting provincial money to buy and install generators so that they can remain operational during a crisis. The organizations are receiving money through the provincial community generator program. This will allow them buy and install generators, allowing the facilities to serve as a place for the community to gather during emergencies like power outages. Organizations receiving money include the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire Department, Community Support Society of River John, MacDonald Rebekah Lodge No. 108, River John Legion Branch 108, the River John Volunteer Fire Department, the Scotsburn Fire Department and Union Centre Community Hall.
Someone in Cape Breton has a record-breaking, multimillion-dollar winning lottery ticket. The winning ticket from yesterday’s Lotto Max draw was sold in New Waterford, and is worth $31 million. According to Atlantic Lottery, it is the largest lotto win ever in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. The odds of winning the Lotto Max jackpot are 1 in over 33-million.
