The Province is banning the use of TikTok on government-issued mobile devices effective today (Wednesday).
The Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services, Colton LeBlanc, says there’s no need for the TikTok app to be on government-issued mobile devices, and the TikTok app will be removed from all government-issued mobile devices today and blocked from being accessed to protect the privacy and security of government information.
Officials say TikTok’s data collection methods provide substantial access to the contents of the phone, making those who have downloaded the application more vulnerable to surveillance.

A performance audit of a Nova Scotia government fund set up to fight climate change has found that only a small portion of the funds transferred to two non-profit clean energy agencies has been spent.
Auditor general Kim Adair says almost 74-million dollars was transferred out of the Green Fund over its first two years of operation — but about 60-million was still sitting in “program partner” bank accounts as of last March.
Adair says virtually all of the cash was sent to the independent agencies EfficiencyOne and the Clean Foundation — but her department was not given a good explanation for why they were given the funds before the money was needed to deliver Green Fund initiatives.
The audit was performed before the provincial government announced a shift last fall to a modified Nova Scotia Climate Change Fund tied to a new emissions reduction plan.
