The provincial government is investing $3.58 million to expand renal care at Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital in Pictou.
The funding will help to increase the number of dialysis stations at Sutherland Harris from four to 12, meaning more patients will have access to renal care each week.
The expansion also means the elimination of the current wait list along with the need for patients to travel to Antigonish, Truro or Halifax for treatment.
A woman who was the subject of an emergency alert Sunday night has turned herself into police.
Sipekne’katik R-C-M-P say the 27-year-old woman surrendered shortly after midnight Monday and was released without charge after being interviewed.
The Mounties issued the emergency alert Sunday night warning residents that a woman may be on foot with a handgun in the community after a firearm was reportedly discharged inside a home.
Police say no one was injured in the incident and there was no evidence to show that a firearm had been discharged or that the woman was in possession of one.
Two police officers killed in the line of duty were honoured at a regimental funeral with tears, laughs and contagious joy.
Thousands of officers gathered with family members to say a formal goodbye to Edmonton police 35-year-old Constable Travis Jordan, who grew up here in Nova Scotia in Coldbrook, and 30-year-old Constable Brett Ryan at Rogers Place, the home arena of the Edmonton Oilers.
The officers were shot at multiple times while responding to a family dispute on March 16th.
There have been 10 officers killed in the line of duty in Edmonton.
