The Nova Scotia government has reached a tentative deal with 54-hundred school support workers in the province.
An agreement was reached in the early hours of Wednesday, avoiding a possible strike on Friday.
The president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Nova Scotia isn’t releasing details of the deal, but says “we are pleased and we are recommending it.”
Ratification votes will be held over the next few weeks.
Canadians may be dealing with disruptions in the handling of their taxes as Canada’s largest public service strike is underway.
Federal workers are on the picket lines after the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the government failed to reach a deal on a new collective agreement.
Federal Treasury Board President Mona Fortier wouldn’t say what the government’s position is on the idea of possible back-to-work legislation.
Fortier says she hopes that progress will be made with the union at the bargaining table.
The workers are calling for wage increases and improvements to working conditions, as well as the option for remote work.
Nova Scotia R-C-M-P say some of their services will be affected by the national public service labour strike.
The Mounties say the strike will affect administrative services such as media relations, criminal record checks, web updates and public access to R-C-M-P buildings.
However, they say frontline or core policing necessary for the safety of the public will continue as usual.
The Admin Office of Town Hall in Stellarton will be closed today from 11:45am until 4:00pm.
This is required for a training session.
The Police Service, and the Marketing and Recreation offices will remain open.

David Hillier was named the Municipality of Pictou County’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year during a special celebration at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on Tuesday.
Hillier has been instrumental in the development of the Merigomish School House and as a leader with the Merigomish Area Recreation and Social Association.
