The Public Service Alliance of Canada has reached a tentative contract agreement with the Treasury Board covering more than 120,000 federal government workers across the country.
The national strike is now over for Treasury Board workers, specifically members of the PA, SV, TC and EB bargaining groups, who are required to return to work May 1st at 9 a.m. Eastern Time or their next scheduled shift.
PSAC says strike action continues for 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency workers nationwide, with contract negotiations ongoing.
Public servants hit picket lines at locations across the country beginning April 19th in what the union said was one of the biggest job actions in Canadian history.
Service disruptions loomed large during the job action, from slowdowns at the border to pauses on new employment insurance, immigration and passport applications.
Initial negotiations on a new collective agreement initially began in June 2021, and the union declared an impasse in May 2022, with both parties filing labour complaints since.
Ottawa and the province are putting 18 million dollars towards a plan to respond to a key recommendation from the inquiry into Nova Scotia’s mass shooting.
The inquiry called on the governments to treat unmet needs for mental health in northern and central Nova Scotia, where 22 people were shot dead on April 18th and 19th, 2020.
Federal minister of mental health and addictions Carolyn Bennett and provincial counterpart Brian Comer, say planning is to begin immediately on delivering mental health, grief and bereavement services for the affected communities.
Both say a long-term strategy will be developed with the help of people in Colchester, Cumberland and Hants counties.
Colchester County District RCMP are investigating after a green laser was pointed towards an aircraft flying over the Five Islands area.
On Sunday at approximately 1:30 a.m., a small two seater plane was flying at 6,500 feet and travelling near the Five Islands Provincial Park when the pilot observed a green laser appear near the flight deck.
The pilot reported the incident to air traffic controllers.
Investigators have since learned that the light source appeared to be tracking the aircraft for a duration of 30 to 40 seconds.
The RCMP is reminding the public that pointing a laser at an aircraft is a criminal offence and any person convicted of intentionally interfering with an aircraft, by using a laser, could face up to $ 100,000 in fines and/or up to five years in prison.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Colchester County District RCMP or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.

The father of Nova Scotia Premier and Pictou East MLA Tim Houston has died.
Lloyd Houston was a decorated military veteran who moved to Halifax from rural Ontario as a young sailor.
His son has said Lloyd left home as a teenager and hitchhiked to the local recruiting office, thus launching his celebrated time with the armed forces.
Tim Houston tweeted about his father’s death, saying he missed his dad’s calmness and kindness.
Today (Monday) was to be the opening day for the Northumberland Ferries sailing season between PEI and Nova Scotia, but the weather conditions have forced a change.
Northumberland Ferries says it was ready to go today, but with the windy weather forecast for today the season will now start on Tuesday.
The company says the decision was made with the safety of passengers and crew in mind.
