A legendary Canadian folk singer and songwriter has died.
A family representative says Gordon Lightfoot died at a Toronto hospital on Monday evening.
The 84-year-old’s cause of death was not immediately available.
The singer’s debut album “Lightfoot!” was released in 1965, ushering in a new folk voice and by the turn of the decade he eased rather effortlessly into the pop scene, making his first appearance on the Billboard chart with 1971’s “If You Could Read My Mind.”
The Atlantic Physician Register is now up and running.
The region’s premiers announced that the register became active yesterday.
Doctors who opt in will be able to practice in any of the four Atlantic provinces.
Physician regulators have agreed on an annual fee of 500 dollars for physicians to use the register, while doctors on the register will no longer be subject to locum or temporary licence fees.

The Liberal government has outlined a revamped approach to restricting assault-style firearms, after several days of behind-the-scenes negotiations.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says a ban on assault-style firearms would apply once legislation comes into force.
The government also plans to recreate a federal firearms advisory committee that will make recommendations on the classification of guns now on the market.
The Liberals withdrew a gun bill amendment in February that would have spelled out in law the various models to fall under an assault-style gun ban, after criticism from Conservative M-Ps and some firearm advocates
Another round of funding is now up for grabs through Nova Scotia’s Low Carbon Communities program.
One-million-dollars is available to municipalities, First Nations, post-secondary schools, businesses and non-profit organizations.
The money can be used for such things as clean-energy projects and energy-efficiency audits.
The deadline for applications is June 29th.
After a one day delay due to the strong winds yesterday, the sailing season begins today for Northumberland Ferries between PEI and Nova Scotia.
From today through June 28th, Northumberland ferries will make four sailings per day from each of Wood Islands, PEI and Caribou.
