Federal Immigration Minister and Central Nova MP Sean Fraser has announced an investment into the largest green space in Trenton.

Ottawa is contributing 114-thousand-dollars to increase the hosting capacity of Trenton Park and generate additional tourism revenue.

Trenton Park is used for a number of outdoor activities that take advantage of its amphitheatre, pond and trails.

Fraser says the money is a non-repayable contribution.

 

 

Nova Scotia’s fire marshal is facing intense scrutiny over an auditor general report accusing the marshal’s office of putting public safety at risk.

Douglas MacKenzie appeared before a legislature committee Wednesday to explain why his office failed to act on repeated warnings from the auditor general going back to 2001.

MacKenzie says the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing shortages were largely to blame for his office’s failure to keep up with inspections.

 

 

Parks Canada sites in mainland Nova Scotia are officially open for this year’s summer visiting season, including a new exhibit in downtown Halifax.

The Citadel National Historic Site features a new display that chronicles the history of the city through its establishment as Halifax in 1749 to the present.

Entry includes guided tours, noon gun, pipes and drum performances, period rooms, exhibits, family programs, and the Army Museum.

WestJet and the union representing pilots who are threatening to strike early Friday morning remain at the bargaining table.

But the airline’s C-E-O isn’t sounding optimistic they can reach a tentative contract agreement.

WestJet is offering refunds to passengers who change or cancel flights scheduled until Sunday.

A letter obtained by The Canadian Press shows WestJet’s latest offer would see wide-body plane captains earn 350-thousand-dollars a year by the end of the collective agreement.

 

 

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan is describing an incident with the paparazzi that is drawing comparisons to the 1997 car crash that killed Harry’s mother, Diana.

The couple’s office says the pair and Meghan’s mother were followed by vehicles after leaving a charity event Tuesday night.

It claims the pursuit led to multiple near-collisions and close calls with pedestrians.

New York police say there were no injuries or collisions, and the couple was eventually whisked away in a taxi.
