Fire officials say heavy rain on the weekend helped stop the advance of the massive Barrington Lake fire in southern Nova Scotia.
However, the blaze was continuing to burn out of control Monday night.
The Shelburne County East Emergency Management office says the past week has been “tough and exhausting” for the community.
The area received 77 millimetres of rain over the weekend.
So far, about 11-thousand evacuees have returned to their residences in suburbs northwest of Halifax.
Fire officials report the fire that started over a week ago is now under control other than some hot spots.
Lindsay Lee says that when she and her partner returned to their house, her anxiety levels fell as they found their home was in good condition.
But she says she’s broken-hearted for others who have lost everything.
Provincial officials are still trying to determine how many people had their data stolen through a global privacy breach.
The breach occurred through a third-party file transfer system called MOVEit.
A spokesperson for the provincial Department of Cybersecurity and Digital Solutions said yesterday the investigation into who is affected and what kind of data was stolen is still underway.
A website for the Nova Scotia Heath Authority says MOVEit software is used to share sensitive and confidential information with partners and external clients.
A public engagement session with New Glasgow regional Police is being held on Wednesday, June 14th at the Trenton Rink Annex at 75 Park Road at 6:00pm.
Residents can meet with representatives from their local police department, ask questions and learn more about how they serve the community.
