Gasoline and diesel prices went in opposite directions overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices went down by 3.0 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self serve gasoline at $1.54 per litrre.
Diesel prices increased by 2.5 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at over $1.38 per litre.
Halifax Mayor Mike Savage says evacuation orders will be lifted today for residents in subdivisions that sustained the most damage in last week’s wildfire.
Savage says emergency alerts will be sent explaining how access will be granted to various neighbourhoods in the Upper Tantallon and Hammonds Plains areas.
In all, more than 16-thousand people were forced to flee their homes, but several evacuation orders have since been lifted for other subdivisions northwest of the city’s downtown.
About four thousand people are still waiting to return to their homes.
New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs is facing a revolt from eight members of his caucus following changes to the province’s policy on sexual orientation in schools.
Changes to policy 7-1-3 mean trans and non-binary students under 16 now won’t be able to officially change their names or pronouns in school without parental consent.
Six cabinet ministers and two back-benchers sat out of question period and other legislative business in protest to the changes, which take effect July 1st.
The Tories hold a majority with 29 of the legislature’s 49 seats, and an election is not due until next year.
The RCMP is investigating a threat to Acadia University.
On Tuesday, RCMP received a report of a threat of a possible shooting at Acadia University.
The threat was received in an email by Acadia University Safety and Security and, based on initial investigation, the information concerning the threat was being circulated on a social media platform.
The threat indicated that a shooting would occur at Acadia University this coming fall.
The investigation is ongoing.
Former U-S President Donald Trump has been indicted on charges of mishandling classified documents at his Florida estate.
The U-S Justice Department’s investigation into Trump and his handling of such documents has ended in a federal prosecution that is arguably the most perilous of the many legal threats against the former president, all while he seeks to reclaim the White House.
The Justice Department did not immediately publicly confirm the indictment, but two people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to discuss it publicly say Trump’s team had been informed that he had been indicted on seven counts.
