Search vessels and aircraft from the United States and Canada are scouring an area south of Newfoundland’s coast for a small submersible reported missing near the wreck of the Titanic.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax confirmed that a research submarine was reported overdue Sunday, about 700 kilometres south of St. John’s.
An Aurora military aircraft and a Canadian Coast Guard vessel are assisting the search effort, which is being led by the U-S Coast Guard in Boston.
The U-S coast guard says the five person crew of the 6.4 metre vessel lost contact with its surface launch ship about one hour and 45 minutes into the dive.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in the Halifax area to meet with firefighters and other first responders involved in the recent battle against a devastating wildfire.
Trudeau thanked them yesterday for their work in fighting the wildfire that broke out on May 28th, destroying 150 homes and forcing more than 16-thousand people to evacuate the area.
Flanked by Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, the prime minister visited a fire station in Hammond Plains, just a few hundred metres from where the fire burned.
Trudeau met with dozens of volunteer and full-time firefighters, as well as the fire department’s management and union representation, posing for photos.
RCMP in PEI have issued an AMBER Alert, seeking the public’s assistance in a child abduction.
Jazlyn Blaisdell is 9-years old and autistic and was last seen at 1:30am in Eglinton, PEI with Mom Rachel Perry.
They are in a blue Mitsubishi RVR with PEI license plate B150V with suspect Andrew Blaisdell who is considered armed and dangerous.
Police say the child may not understand verbal cues.
If located, call 9-1-1 immediately and do not approach.
A ceremony was held Monday afternoon by the Town of New Glasgow at Glasgow Square to raise the flag for International Pride Month and kick off many Pride festivities happening in New Glasgow this week.
