The provincial government has announced plans to build a new school for students from pre-primary to Grade eight in Pictou County.
Minister Pat Dunn says the school, which is expected to open in September of 2027, will replace Trenton Elementary and Trenton Middle School.
Dunn says this will address the population growth, aging infrastructure and bring the entire community together.
The provincial government is spending about 263-million dollars for four new replacement schools, including the one in Trenton.
Liberals in Nova Scotia are calling the Houston government’s plan to offer doctors 10-thousand dollars to take 50 patients off the province’s doctor waiting list a reactionary measure.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson said yesterday the province will also prioritize moving people with the most pressing medical needs off the list.
Liberal Leader Zach Churchill said the plan isn’t thought-through, calling it a temporary, stop-gap measure.
The wait list currently shows about 150-thousand people are in need of a primary-care provider across the province.
The United States Coast Guard has confirmed all five passengers aboard the Titan submersible are dead after debris belonging to the vessel was found near the wreck of the Titanic.
A tail cone of the submersible and other debris from the vessel were found about four-hundred-and-90 metres from the bow of the famous shipwreck.
Officials say the debris was consistent with the catastrophic loss of the craft’s pressure chamber.
The submersible Titan, operated by U.S.-based OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact with surface vessels on Sunday morning as it was nearing the Titanic shipwreck.
