Nova Scotia’s Opposition Liberals are pushing for a vulnerable persons registry in light of severe weather events.
Lorelei Nicoll, shadow minister for the Emergency Management Office, says such a list would keep vulnerable people safe in emergencies.
Nicoll says some municipalities already have the tool in place.
The Vulnerable Persons Registry Act was first tabled after post-tropical storm Fiona hit the province last fall, but it was not adopted by the Progressive Conservative government.
The Province wants to hear from Nova Scotians on ways they can cut down on waste sent to landfills.
Nova Scotia’s target is reducing solid waste to 300 kilograms per person, per year, by 2030 – down from the current estimated 400 kilograms.
An online public consultation process was launched Thursday and it runs to September 29.
