Post-Tropical storm Lee left the Maritimes with a trail of downed trees and debris that caused wide-scale power outages in two provinces.
Residents in parts of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick spent yesterday clearing tree branches, leaves and other debris.
In Bridgewater and other towns along Nova Scotia’s South Shore, fast-food outlets did a roaring business as residents stopped for a coffee, a hot meal and wifi access.
In Halifax the cleanup continued as the city dealt with as many as 130 downed trees.
This morning, as of 4:00am, Nova Scotia Power was still reporting more than 1,400 power outages across the province, impacting more than 23-thousand customers.
There are dozens scattered power outages across Pictou County this morning, most of them affecting a small number of customers – many affecting less than 10 customers.
However, some may be waiting a while for their power.
Nova Scotia Power is indicating an estimated restoration time of 11:00pm tonight for some of those scattered outages.
A reminder from New Glasgow regional Police to treat traffic lights as a 4-way stop if traffic lights have failed or the power is out. Pedestrians should also walk with caution in crossing if there are power issues with traffic lights.
Few details are available, but the RCMP advised on social media early Sunday night that they were on the the scene of a serious two vehicle collision near the intersection of Masstown Rd. and Plains Rd. in Debert in Colchester County. There had been lane closures as a result, and they were expected to continue into the night. No further details have been provided as yet.
New Glasgow Regional Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate an arson on the Pioneer Trail Kinsmen Bridge in New Glasgow. Police received a report that a portion of the Kinsmen Bridge on the Pioneer Trail decking was burnt. The incident occurred sometime in between late Friday night into early Saturday morning before 7:00 a.m.. Anyone with information is asked to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Pictou County is set to host The 2023 55+ Games which run from Wednesday to Saturday. The event will be hosted in multiple venues across Pictou County.
The opening ceremonies for the games will be held Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
Saturday’s postponed Maritime Junior Hockey League game between the Pictou County Weeks Crushers and the Amherst Ramblers at Amherst Stadium has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
