The RCMP issued an emergency alert today for Pictou, Antigonish and Colchester Counties – and it stems from an incident in Thorburn where residents are being told to shelter in place. The RCMP is searching for 61-year-old John Douglas Cress in regards to an assault with an axe at a home on Greenwood St. in Thorburn. Police say one person suffered serious injuries, and the victim and suspect do know each other. Cress fled into woods and is believed to be on foot. Cress is described as five feet ten inches tall, with grey hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing a long sleeve grey sweatshirt and shorts. The RCMP asks that you stay away from the area, as officers have seen people driving through the area trying to see what is happening. The search is being assisted by the RCMP’s Colchester County District, Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Air Services.

been taken into police custody.

Assisting in the search were the RCMP’s Colchester County District, Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Air Services. Police later advised on Monday afternoon that Cress had been arrested without incident
Some early-season snowfall is expected for some areas today, with up to 5cm possible. Snow may mix with ice pellets in some areas before changing over to rain later today. A second more widespread early season snowfall is anticipated Wednesday and Wednesday night for most of the province. Accumulations may be significant enough to cause hazardous travel conditions.
R-C-M-P are investigating a crash in Chipmans Corner that left one person dead. Police say it was a head-on collision that happened Saturday evening involving a half-ton truck and car. The driver and sole occupant of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver and sole occupant of the car, a 75-year-old woman from North Kentville, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The past week has seen frustrations rise in the Nova Scotia legislature over extended hours and opposition delay tactics aimed at keeping the government in the House of Assembly.
The opposition parties say that the governing Progressive Conservatives are extending debate hours in order to wrap up the sitting faster and to avoid the daily question period.
Both the Liberals and N-D-P have responded by holding up bills clause by clause in order to delay passage.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston is casting doubt on a corporate tax rebate that was a key promise in his party’s 2021 election platform.
Houston appeared to back away from the “better paycheque guarantee” _ a proposal that was to give Nova Scotia companies a 50 per cent rebate on their provincial corporate taxes if they used the savings to pay their employees more.
The premier now says he doesn’t know if the measure is possible as proposed.

R-C-M-P in Colchester County are investigating an incident where multiple cats were killed in the Debert area.
Police say they responded Tuesday to a report of three cats found dead at locations near a property on Hunters Glen in Debert.
Investigators say they learned the animals had gone missing between October 15th and 17th, adding that a firearm is believed to have been used in the deaths.
The Mounties are asking anyone with information to contact them or to call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
