Gasoline and diesel prices both went down overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices went down by 1.4 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 161.4 cents per litre in the local area.
Diesel prices decreased by 1.2 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 199.1 cents per litre locally.
On Thursday, six municipalities in Pictou County collectively announced their capital contribution to the new Nova Scotia SPCA facility in Stellarton.
The Municipality of the County of Pictou, and Towns of New Glasgow, Pictou, Stellarton, Trenton and Westville will contribute a total of $224,000 towards the new Nova Scotia SPCA facility currently under construction, the North Nova SPCA,
The new build is larger, centrally located and will include an enforcement office, a new veterinary hospital, and a new social enterprise thrift store, and will serve the animals in need from Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
Truro Police are looking for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Jasmine Vanbrackel. Jasmine lives in Truro, but is also reported to frequent the Halifax/Lower Sackville area.
She is described as 5-foot-3, weighing 160 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Jasmine’s location, should contact Truro Police Service.
The provincial minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing has temporarily stepped away from his job.
A spokeswoman says Health Minister Michelle Thompson is taking on John Lohr’s duties until December 12th.
Chrissy Matheson says Lohr is taking some personal time.
She says while Lohr is away, Thompson is being supported by the deputy minister and associate deputy minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
The new regional chief of the Assembly of First Nations for Nova Scotia is officially in her new job.
Andrea Paul was inducted yesterday during a ceremony at a Dartmouth hotel, surrounded by friends, supporters and family.
The first woman to hold the position, Paul swore an oath to “support the well being and the best interests of the chiefs of Nova Scotia,” while in office for the next three years.
She also wore a headdress that included key symbols of her life, including hieroglyphs representing “listening”, “the environment” and “the Mi’kmaq” people.
A new help line is now in place in Nova Scotia and in other provinces to help those with thoughts of suicide and those wishing to voice concerns about others in distress.
The 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline provides urgent, live, trauma-informed support by phone and text 24 hours a day, year round.
Funded by the federal government, the help line is now available in every province and territory in Canada.
