Canada’s Environment Minister has wrapped up the COP-28 summit in Dubai with a deal with nearly 200 countries pledging to transition away from fossil fuels.
Steven Guilbeault says he would have preferred stronger language around coal, but noted for some countries, it was “difficult” to even see coal mentioned in the final version of the 21-page agreement.
Some environmentalists warn that the deal is weakened by distractions, such as leaving the door open to so-called transitional fuels like natural gas.
Nova Scotia Public Health has linked four cases of a recent Salmonella infection in the province’s northern and central zones to the national outbreak reported last month.
Officials say the Nova Scotia cases were initially investigated in late November, although the national microbiology lab has just confirmed the cases are from the same strain of bacteria as the national outbreak.
All of the cases that presented with symptoms were tested and the patients have since recovered.
Public health says that as of December 7th, there have been 129 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella illness linked to this outbreak across the country.
A pilot project will allow Nova Scotia snowmobilers to drive on some snow-covered road shoulders and roadways.
Public Works Minister Kim Masland says the project supports safe use of snowmobiles on specific roadways in Inverness and Lunenburg counties.
The pilot project starts Friday and runs until the end of March.
The province says the Road Trails Act has allowed other off-highway vehicles permanent road access at approved locations since late September, following a similar pilot.
