Gasoline prices and diesel prices both increased overnight in Nova Scotia.
Gasoline prices went up by 3.8 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 160.2 cents per litre in the local area.
Diesel prices rose by 1.3 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 195.2 cents per litre locally.
Police in Halifax say an investigation into an historic sexual assault allegation against members of Canada’s 2003 world junior hockey team is ongoing.
The incident under investigation is alleged to have occurred in Halifax during the 2003 world junior hockey championship and involved members of Canada’s team.
Halifax police said in July 2022 that they were opening the investigation shortly around the same time that police in London, Ontario, reopened an investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving members of Canada’s 2018 world junior team.
A new report says Nova Scotia has the highest poverty rate in the country.
The report from the United Way blames fallout from the pandemic, rapid population growth, inflation and a shortage of housing.
As well, the report says poverty has been made worse by climate-driven disasters including hurricanes and wildfires.
As a result, individuals and families are relying on community programs and organizations for support more than ever — but the report says the services that are there to help are also being strained.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Liberal M-Ps continue with caucus meetings today in Ottawa which includes fighting back with more vigour against the Conservatives and leader Pierre Poilievre.
Trudeau also moved to link Poilievre to the rhetoric of U-S right-wing T-V personality Tucker Carlson, who gave speeches at events in Calgary and Edmonton this week.
As the Liberal caucus met, former justice minister David Lametti announced his decision to leave public office.
When he was shuffled out of cabinet last July, Lametti pledged he would run for re-election but ultimately changed his mind.
New Glasgow Regional Police are encouraging residents to think before they park when it is snowing. Police continue to receive reports that vehicles are being parked on streets during the winter parking ban, delaying snow removal.
Residents in the Towns of New Glasgow and Trenton are reminded that the winter parking bans are in effect, and vehicles must be off streets during the hours of 1:00am to 7:00am.
Tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed if they are parked in a way that interferes with snow clearing.
