The shovels and snow blowers are getting a good workout this winter.

The latest nor’easter is keeping road crews busy too, as the second big dump of snow in less than two weeks hits the region after walloping New England.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for most of southern and eastern Nova Scotia’s, as well as the eastern half of Newfoundland, where the heaviest snow is expected.

Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education are closing all schools today, due to current road conditions and forecasted wind causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.

This includes schools in the Counties of Colchester, Pictou , Cumberland and the Municipality of East Hants.

Pictou County could see about 15cm with strong winds gusting to 60km/h.

That combination is creating whiteout conditions in some areas, and making travel difficult.

Most flights out of Stanfield have been cancelled, and as things clear up, airport officials advise passengers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.

It’s officially Valentine’s Day, and perhaps those simple little gifts we made as kids would be very much appreciated today as well, as a recent survey shows that most people appreciate those homemade gifts.

If it’s not crafted by yourself, the survey also says that the most traditional gifts most desired this holiday are dinner, flowers and chocolates.
